![]() I swear I don't work for Image Line, haha. This probably comes off as a massive advert for FL Studio, but that's just how I personally feel about the program. Cubase has the capacity for anywhere from 24 to unlimited MIDI depending on which version you have, this could be 8 to limited visual studio technology tracks or 16 to unlimited audio tracks. They even blatantly propagate the myth that their mixer "sounds better" than any other DAW in a promotional video for 9.5. Cubase and FL Studio are both music production software programs, but they have some key differences. I haven't looked at what they've added in Cubase 9.5, but Cubase 9 addressed basically none of the long standing complaints about Cubase 8. Steinberg, on the other hand, really put me off. They are very engaged with their user base overall through their official forums, and they are continuously pumping out improvements to their software, both feature-wise and under-the-hood performance optimizations. But FL has some advantages over Cubase as well, like automation clips.Īudio Quality: The myth that audio quality varies per DAW has been thoroughly debunked.Ĭompany: Image Line is a company that I feel great about supporting. The only areas I can think of where Cubase gets a slight edge is in the ease of sidechaining to VST plugins and adding post-fader insert FX. Mixing & Mastering: FL Studio doesn't have any major limitations here. Well, Id really support Fl studio for a beginner, but if you start with Cubase, youll find. But it's totally doable, and Image Line are continuously improving this area with updates. FL Studio 12 or Cubase or Ableton Live Thanks for the A2A. Recording Vocals and Live Instruments: Admittedly, FL Studio still doesn't have the greatest audio recording workflow. And, if you're lacking music theory knowledge, and you really need some extra help making chord progressions, you can always grab Cthulhu for forty bucks, which probably destroys Cubase's Chord Tracks anyway. The only difference is that Cubase’s audio recording audio studio follows a traditional style. This flexibility when it comes to recording and editing tracks is also present on Cubase. ![]() Its Piano Roll is widely acclaimed as one of the best MIDI editors in any DAW. Ableton allows you to record as many instruments and vocals at once. ![]() MIDI Composition: FL is great for MIDI composition. If you know of any more, send a mod mail!Īs a former Cubase user, I recommend FL Studio. r/JunkFolder - post unfinished tracks here for others to finish If you're here, chances are you've heard of other similar subreddits, but in case you haven't, check these out.
